Ecorse Rowing Club's RSS FeedWould you like to get the Latest News from ERC without having to check the web site daily? RSS is the answer. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication, or Rich Site Summary, or other things depending on who you talk to. What RSS does is more important: It allows a web site to "broadcast" brief summary headlines that any internet user can read as part of a headline collection. This means that you can specify a collection of news summaries from any site that supports RSS, and there are many sites that do! As a visual explanation of what this can look like, take a look at the Google News site. This isn't a true RSS headline collection, but the layout is similar to what you can expect: a series of headlines from various newspapers and other web sites that broadcast the RSS information, shown on a single page that you arrange as you please! To create your custom page, you need a software tool often called a "RSS reader", "news reader" or an "aggregator". This software can be part of a web site or a standalone program that you download to your home computer. A RSS reader that you download often has nicer graphics and more features. One list of available software (many for free) is available from BlogSpace. If you'd like the simplicity of using a web-based RSS reader, two big names (both requiring a free account) are:
However you do it, starting with RSS takes a little effort. But once you are set up, RSS brings the news to you, saving time and avoiding missed information. The Important Stuff: Once you have an RSS Reader set up, you need to add ERC's RSS file location to your reader. Highlight and copy this web address: http://www.ecorserowingclub.com/erc.rss Paste this web address into the file location field as specified by your RSS reader. That should be it! Each RSS reader should also give you configuration options such as: View headlines posted in last __ days, view headlines and summaries, etc. |
